OSJS Summer Courses

Overview of the Program

For summer 2004, OSJS offers five courses on Jewish history, culture, and religion taught by visiting faculty. These day and evening courses meet for one-week, two-week, and four-week sessions. By taking a combination of courses, one gains a cross-section of significant recent scholarship in Judaic studies.

Housed at Oregon’s urban university, OSJS attracts a diverse audience for credit or audit, including:

  • College students seeking courses unavailable on their home
    campuses
  • Teachers seeking continuing professional education
  • Adult learners, both local and visiting
  • High school students

The mix of students—young and old; Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and secular; degree-seeking or simply sampling a college course—makes our discussions lively.

During the 2004–05 academic year, Portland State will offer threeterm sequences in introductory and intermediate Hebrew and more than 20 courses in fields including the Bible, Middle East studies, film, and literature. Course descriptions are available on our Web site, www.judaic.pdx.edu. Information and registration for courses are available by phone at 503-725-4832 or 1-800-547-8887 ext 4832.
