A study of the relationship between power and sexuality in foundational biblical texts: the Garden of Eden, Joseph, Song of Songs, Proverbs, and others. The course uses biblical texts in translation and articles by classical and modern biblical scholars.




Family and Identity through Film

Families form our understandings of self and anchor our social identities. Through readings and documentary and narrative films from Europe, the Americas, and Israel, we view marriage, intergenerational dynamics, and gender roles in the experience of Jews, Hispanics, and Asians. Each class has 3 parts: lectures, film showings, and discussion.

Take introductory Hebrew in a concentrated 9-week sequence. For all who cannot find time in their schedules, the summer course is a great way to accelerate your learning and ready yourself for PSUs Second Year Hebrew course to be offered Tuesday-Thursday evenings in the 2006-07 academic year.

OSJS courses are open to students and learners of all ages and backgrounds for both credit and noncredit. Credit is available through Portland State University. Summer students planning to transfer credits to their home institutions should get advance approval of their selections. Because OSJS is self-supporting, courses are not available through the Senior Adult Learning Center. Scholarships are available through the generosity of donors. Enrollment begins May 2.
